Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese, director of The Irishman outspoke against Marvel movies in a recent podcast Rolling Stones‘ Peter Travers. He said he simply doesn’t get the genre and the same keeps repeating, over and over again.
It might be cinema to the kids seeing those films, but I don’t get it. Or least let me put it this way: I’ve seen one or two, that’s enough. Because it’s the same thing over and over, you know?
This has led to some controversies and made headlines. But surprisingly, Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman and Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame are on shortlist for Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The conflict might continue up until the Oscars.
Disney is on the upper hand because Aladdin, Dumbo, and The Lion King are on the shortlist too. Marvel owned by Disney has an advantage over Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home which also made it to the shortlist. That’s a huge win for Disney.
