American Stuntman, Sam Hargrave debuts his first movie as a director with Extraction.
Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler alongside Indian actor Rudhraksh Jaiswal as a school kid Ovi Mahajan.
Extraction is based on a book called Ciudad written by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Fernando León González.
Centring in Dhaka, Extraction is all about action. Chris Hemsworth slayed his role. The Russo Brothers have been a part of the movie which did not make much difference.

Netflix brings in a violet movie that entirely happens in India and Bangladesh. Starring Chris Hemsworth in the lead and a few popular Indian actors including Randeep Hooda and Pankaj Tripathi, Extraction is a fine action thriller.
Ovi Mahajan is an Indian drug lord’s kid. He loves to hang out with his friends. One day, he sneaks out of his house to go party with his friends. Ovi and his friend stand outside a pub, smoking a cigarette. Indian police arrive and everything gets messed up. In no time, his friend is shot dead and Ovi is kidnapped.
Saju who works for Ovi’s father visits a prison where Ovi’s father is captured. Saju informs the father about Ovi’s kidnap and who is involved in it. Turns out, it’s his rival, Amir Asif, a big drug lord same as Ovi’s father, but Amir is from Bangladesh and he wants money, a lot of money in return for Ovi to be alive and handed back safe. Saju is blackmailed by the father, forcing him to bring back Ovi in good condition.
Nik Khan hires Tyler Rake for this mission to extract Ovi from Dhaka. Tyler rescues Ovi by fighting the goons, but then the whole city is locked down as ordered by Amir Asif, this prevents Tyler and the kid from escaping Dhaka. How are they going to come out alive?
As always, my reviews are spoiler-free, you can go ahead and read.
Extraction is adapted from a graphic novel written by the directors of Avengers: Endgame. The novel is called Ciudad, which in Spanish means city. Fernando León González did the Illustrations for the book. There are changes in the movie that are different from the book. Ciudad happens in Ciudad del Este, a city in Paraguay. But Extraction takes place in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital city. In place of Ovi, the boy who gets kidnapped, there a girl in the book named Eva Roche. I have no idea why it’s changed this way.
Chris Hemsworth is an actor who is loved to be seen fighting and doing stunts. He is good in action movies for his body and physique. Extraction has used Hemsworth to his complete potential. He performance was upright. From dialogue delivery to holding a gun and shooting bad guys, Hemsworth was badass. I love his Australian accent, it makes him sexier.
When you club Jame Bond and John Wick movies, you will see Extraction as the result. Hemsworth played the role of Tyler Rake, who has got nothing to lose and is in need of money. His character evolves over the movie. Emotions were rightly expressed.
This Netflix film included Indian actors. At first, I did not recognise Randeep Hooda, he is completely different in the movie. His appearance is unidentifiable, but he acted well, he had dialogues both in Hindi and English. Randeep took part in action sequences, a few of them against Hemsworth and the others alongside him. Pankaj Tripathi played Ovi’s father, he didn’t have much screen time, a minus for the movie. Golshifteh Farahani played Nik Khan and damn! She was hot.
The entire movie is not about Tyler, Ovi is the main character and its mostly about him. I looked on the internet on the actor who played Ovi, Rudhraksh Jaiswal. He is new and young. At this point, he doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page. After this movie, I’m sure he’ll become famous. Rudhraksh was magnificent, he stole the show. Indians speak English in a unique accent. it sometimes feels cringy. Rudhraksh was weird in the beginning, however, made the story interesting with his theatrics.
The movie has action from the start to the end, shooting, fighting, escaping and stunt work that summed up to an emotional and sad ending. This story got me, I was drowning and feeling bad the characters.
Who names a kid Ovi? Like seriously, what were the parents thinking of while coming up with names? Ovaries?
Why do action movies have something that is pointless and doesn’t add up to the plot? Why did the Bangladesh drug lord kidnap the boy and blackmail for money, if all he wants, in the end, is the boy to die and not the money? I don’t get it. And by the way, when he is the Pablo Escobar of Dhaka as mentioned in the film, why does he want money in the first place, isn’t he already rich enough? Asking money only degrades his reputation.
Pankaj Tripathi is confounding actor, must say that, yet he barely got any dialogues. The lines he got to say in the movie were in Hindi and it was clear that the director didn’t care much of the Hindi spoken in the movie. Everything that was spoken in Hindi or Bengali was shit. I think that’s why Chris Hemsworth was the only one who did good in the movie, cause he spoke only English. Stranger Things star David Harbour is also in the movie, his character was pointless. Why was he in the movie, if all he did was nothing?
I hate it when heroes go with a gun and shoot all the guys running towards them and never get shot. Like no one finds a single shot to kill the hero, literally no one. Extraction is completely filled with clichés. Spoiler-free review, right? So I won’t be mentioning what those clichés are. Hero and the bad guys are entering homes of people like its nothing. Even the residents don’t seem to care.
The capital of a country is locked down by a narcotic and the government is doing nothing. The worst part of the movie was the antagonist. Amir Asif actor Priyanshu Painyulli tried to be villainy and terrific, but he didn’t look that way. He instead appeared like a jejune guy who didn’t know how to act.
Honestly, I expected very low of this movie, because action movies don’t make sense anymore. Extraction crossed my expectations in a couple of aspects. The action was good. I was on the edge of my seat for some time and the other time the movie was ridiculous. It’s just a lot of people getting killed in the hands of the hero. Action has lost its meaning in the recent era of the movie industry. That’s why I titled this review, “Just Another Action Movie”.
If you love to see Chirs Hemsworth, his fit body, him punching plenty of people and shooting them with cool guns, guns that you can recognise because you play PUBG, then you are most welcomed to watch the movie but don’t expect this to be extraordinary one with a compelling story.
I have spoken.
