Jonah Hill was all over the internet when the news came out about Warner Bros. Pictures’ approach towards Jonah Hill to play a villain character in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, But according to a new report from Deadline, talks between Hill and the studios have come to an end. Jonah Hill was rumored to play either Riddler or the Penguin, both characters are popular villains from the Batman comics. The director of the movie, Matt Reeves has to search for somebody new to fill the shoes.
This Batman movie will feature Catwoman played by Zoë Kravitz, opposite Robert Pattinson. The new Jim Gordon is said to be played by Jeffrey Wright. As Hill is out of the list to play any villain in the movie, Warner Bros. is looking for other actors.
Reports from TheWarp suggested that Hill was in to play the role of the Riddler, but they couldn’t come to an agreement. Another update from Deadline said that Seth Rogen who voiced Pumbaa in The Lion King might be in the interests of the studio for the Penguin role. No offer is made yet.
Matt Reeves thinks this Batman movie to be an opportunity to showcase the Dark Knight’s abilities as the World’s Greatest Detective. Reeves said,
It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him, Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though, and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me since I was a kid, made me love Batman.
Robert Pattinson who plays Batman in the upcoming movie was keenly interested in playing the role even before he was cast and he even met the director a long time ago to talk about it. Pattinson said,
I’d had Batman in my mind for a while, It’s such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.
The Batman is releasing on June 25, 2021. Filming is set to begin by the end of the year.
