Netflix is coming up with insane shows from different countries, one of which is Germany. Luckily, we get to have lots of series dubbed in English to enjoy and experience incredible foreign language TV shows, one of which is Dark. The first season of Dark was released in December 2017 and since then, the town of Winden was the horrific town that I ever came across in my entire life, yes, more horrific than Hawkins from Stranger Things. Dark season 2 is out.
If you haven’t watched season 1, spoiler alert!
Time is a physical law, but after watching Dark, I learned, Time is something that shouldn’t be fucked around with. Season 1 of Dark was very thrilling. The nostalgic drama, hideous background music, very complex cast and not to forget the gigantic idea of the show itself. Everything came to a stop with the cliff-hanging ending of season 1. Jason ends up in the future and wow! that’s it.
Season 2 begins where it was ended and the hype and wait are to a stop. The second season is more confusing than the first one. An advise if you haven’t watched season 1 recently. You have to go back to Netflix and watch season 1 again before planning to watch the new season. You won’t understand to your best until you know the events and characters of the show in a brief way.
Noah was the question mark left behind, who is he? what does he want? The new season solves the question about Noah, but lands many other dead ends and baffles you with new twists and turns.
The four families in Winden, live an interconnected life and experience awful events. The 33-year cycle was already eating our minds, but the now we learn there’s more to the cycle. The affairs, the missing cases, the secret that is not spoken out, the story behind the nuclear plant is addressed in a bizarre way. The Nielsens, Dopplers, and Tiedemanns set on their own journey’s. Their differences and desires keep the show interesting.
Maja SchöneRemember this one thing, once you are in a time loop, you cannot escape it, no matter what. You will be the lab rat or pawn to the one who set the time loop. The beginning is the end, but the end is also a beginning. Not only does the past influence the future, but the future can also influence the past. Did I just fuck your mind up? Well, that is what is going to happen in season 2 of Dark, you will definitely lose your mind.
New characters are introduced and I won’t say what these characters are, that might spoiler the show for you. The already existing characters are explored further and are given more details that explain the events that occurred, like how Mikkel was really led back in time and what happens to Ulrich Nielsen after the arrest in the past.
Until season 1, it was all about time and the unknown cosmic phenomenon, but the latest season added another layer to the story which is the apocalyptic theme, just like the plot of The Umbrella Academy. The stakes are set right at the beginning of season 2 and the apocalypse was clued in the climax of season 1.
Though my opinion on the ending of season 2 is a mixed one, I am more than satisfied and was addicted to series again. This season had lower amounts of thrill, Why? You’ll understand it while watching. But drama and emotion were replaced by thrill, which is a good thing. I was able to relate to myself.
Who actually is behind all of this phenomenon and what is the motive? Is time that easy to play with? Can one escape his/her fate? Does it have an end?
Watch Dark season 2 on Netflix, released on June 21, 2019.
