How Shazam was actually the original Captain Marvel?

It was first Fawcett Comics who published comics related to Captain Marvel. Later on, Fawcett had to cease publishing related to Captain Marvel in 1953, partly because of the copyright infringement suit from DC Comics, alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman. By 1991, DC had acquired all rights to the character. DC started to integrate all characters from Marvel family (not Marvel Comics) and also captain Marvel into DC universe.

The story became much more interesting when Marvel Comics entered the game claiming the conflict of trademark word – ‘Marvel‘ in Captain Marvel. Marvel Comics already had a character named by Captain Marvel. DC was put into a situation that demanded an unpredictable decision to be taken.
