Fastly approaching the release date, The Rise of Skywalker is an amalgamation and end to all the Skywalker Saga that had fans engaged for decades. The two most important characters that fight for the good side became a hit with The Force Awakens and are very close friends in the movie. So close, that fans wanted them to be a romantic couple. But Director J.J. Abrams killed the hope and said they two are just friends and nothing beyond,
That relationship to me is a far deeper one than a romantic one. It is a deep bond that these two have, not just because of the trial by fire in which they met, but also because of their willingness to be as intimate as they are, as afraid as they, as unsure as they are, and still be bold, and still be daring and brave.
Abrams had his point of view for FinnPoe, but the actors who play Finn and Poe had their views too. Boyega and Isaac argued saying if Finn and Poe were to be a couple, that would have made complete sense. Isaac revealed,
Personally, I kind of hoped and wished that maybe that would’ve been taken further in the other films, but I don’t have control. It seemed like a natural progression, but sadly enough it’s a time when people are too afraid, I think, of…I don’t know what.
The ambiguity of Finn and Poe’s relationship might have made the audience more relatable, Isaac thought.
but if they would’ve been boyfriends, that would have been fun.
Boyega spoke the truth and loved the idea of an open and romantic relationship.
They’ve always had a quite loving and open relationship in which it wouldn’t be too weird if it went beyond it. But at the same time, they are just platonic at the moment.
The possibility of seeing an LGBTQ character is not completely ruled out. J.J. Abrams couldn’t spoil the movie anymore.
In the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film… I will say I’m giving away nothing about what happens in the movie. But I did just say what I just said.
