Thor has his hammer and he is worthy of it, in spite of losing his worthiness once. We know how powerful Mjolnir is. It is God’s hammer. Similar to such a weapon, Tony Stark created a wonderful tech called E.D.I.T.H. short form for Even Dead, I’m The Hero, Tony played it smart. Even if he is dead, he got his trick played well with his student Peter Parker. Now that Spider-Man is growing up and need help to be the superhero he always meant to be, Tony gave him a helping hand by creating an Artifical Intelligence technology before he’s dead.
E.D.I.T.H. is housed in a pair of sunglasses, the same sunglasses that Tony used in Avengers: Infinity War before suiting up when Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw came to earth for the time stone.
These glasses are handed over to Peter Parker by Talos, shapeshifted a Nick Fury in the movie saying,
Stark gave you a multi-billion dollar AR tactical intelligence system.
Tony gave the glasses to Nick, who then gave it to Talos, then they were handed over to Peter, who used it to invade cyber privacy of his friends followed by a drone strike on his classmate Brad Davis accidentally. That’s when he knew he is not worthy of that tech.
Powers of E.D.I.T.H.
From being an A.I. to having all the access to Stark Industries, E.D.I.T.H. is a user interface which allows its user to access all of the Stark satellite networks and has hundreds of drones to execute a command, from killing someone to starting a war.
There is still more to it, E.D.I.T.H. even provides a peek into world’s largest telecommunication companies which allows the user to have all the personal information of anyone including the photos and video in one’s mobile.
Is Peter worthy of it?
In The Dark Knight, Batman created a similar method to track down the Joker using cell phones and their microphones. Lucius Fox protested against the use of it, because,
It’s too much power for one person.
Batman’s SONAR was then destroyed after achieving what Batman wanted. Spider-Man is a 16-year-old kid and he has access over one of the world’s most dangerous technology. His immaturity is seen in the first usage of it, which risked all of his friends’ life, including his. He soon realized he is not worthy of it and passed it down to Quentin Beck thinking he is the next Iron Man. But Peter stepped in the wrong way and fell into the manipulations of Mysterio, whose sole objective was to take over E.D.I.T.H.
The rest is history on how Spider-Man defeated Mysterio and grabbed back the glasses from Beck by killing him. But did Mysterio really die, or was it his illusion trap again, which might have outsmarted Peter tingle aka Spider-sense?
Now that Spider-Man’s true identity is out and all the ones close to Peter Parker are in danger, E.D.I.T.H. has to be put to use wisely. Because “with great power comes great responsibility”, Uncle Ben is always right about it.
