Game of Thrones’ ending was a little sweet, but a lot of bitter. We all had our own assumptions about the Iron Thrones and who would sit on it. But in the end, there was no Iron throne to sit. The one who ended up as the king was unexpected and a bit surprising too. Bran had his own chair, to sit on. Bran The Broken is the name given to the king of the seven kingdoms. So, Will Bran Be The King in George R. R. Martin’s Book Too?
It is said that the idea of Bran Stark becoming the king was though long ago. It wasn’t an immediate decision. Hempstead Wright said it was George R. R. Martin’s plan for the end, Hempstead said,
[Creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] told me there were two things [author] George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king.” Hempstead Wright revealed. So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.
GRRM had it all planned. The show ended with mixed opinions and most of the fans did not like the final season. It lacked detailing and was rushed to the end. That was the reason why many did not like Bran being the king too. But if thought again, it would fit him the best, Bran is actually the suitable ruler, he can warg and he even has greensight, what more does a king need, The Three-Eyed Raven can see what’s happening all over the kingdom at once and he can see the future too.
The actor who placed Bran was definitely shocked, Hempstead Wright first thought it to be a joke because every character got a different script in which they became king or queen. Hempstead explained,
had to physically get up and walk around my flat. I said, ‘What?! You’re joking.’ It was the very last thing I expected to happen. I was convinced they had sent a script to everyone in which they become king or queen, so I still didn’t believe it until the read-through. But I think he is a great character to take on that role. You never thought of him in that way, but what more could you ask for in a king than to have no personal attachments, no agenda, but have a calm understanding of the entire universe? He’s the ideal person to be in charge.
The unexpected ending courted a bit of controversy and most were not convinced about the dead of Daenerys Targaryen. But that won’t be the case with the books, there are still two books which are yet to be released.
Every part that is written by George and was featured in the show was a hit, the audience liked it, the remaining books will definitely be amazing and Bran being the king at the end of the show was the decision of George, which means Bran will also be the king in books.
George wrote on his Not a Blog, “How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different?”
“Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.”
The yes part includes Bran Stark being the ruler of Westeros and the no will be the disappointing parts fo the show’s finale. GRRM is clever and he will give a better ending. He also wrote,
‘There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet. And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…”
